Impressions of Interiors : Walter Gay

As I continue my search for the perfect piece of art, I have revisited some books on classic paintings.
One such book that is a must for art and interiors lovers is Impressions of Interiors, Gilded Age Paintings by Walter Gay.The book was done by Isabel L Taube and features 70 works from public and private collections. It displays the wonderful work by the American artist Walter Gay and his depiction of "empty" rooms filled with furniture but no human presence.
Walter Gay ()1856-1836) was a highly accomplished artist. He and his wife Matilda lived most of their life in Paris and enjoyed being part of "High Society". Many of Walter's painting were of his home or that of his close friend's, thus you will find many French pieces present in the rooms he depicted. I love the effortless flow to each of his rooms, you can almost place yourself there for a moment. I also love the inspiration one can obtain from these  interiors by seeing them rendered in oil! I found a fun site that does oil reproductions and one such artist they reproduce is Walter Gay. So, if you cannot afford a Walter Gay original check out www.niceartgallery.com.  Meanwhile get this book you wont be sorry!

Friday Art Search on U Gallery!

What is a space with out art...just a space! Art is a very personal expression of oneself and and should not be taken lightly! Don't just throw a painting or print up there to cover a hole in the wall, really love what you hang! I have become a bit obsessed with searching for art. I have a cluster of artwork climbing the wall  of my staircase in the living room, and each little piece speaks to me. Now I am onto the Dining room where I need a substantial piece over my buffet. I love seeing what up and coming artists have to offer, and the site that I turn to most is U Gallery. I still venture onto Etsy and Ebay and love to peruse many art galleries in PA, and NYC. However, this is so easy from my little old desk to view piece after piece from the comfort of my office!  I have my favorite Friday picks for you today, and if you get a chance go on the U Gallery site and find some favorites of your own! Happy Weekend everyone!

Virginia Hotel in New Jersey!

The Virginia Hotel located in Cape May NJ is a little gem of the Jersey Shore! If you are looking for a quaint boutique hotel in an adorable town within walking distance to the ocean, this is it. I know the Jersey shore tends to have a bad reputation now because of good old MTV, but don't let that fool you! We have some beautiful shore towns that have not gone wild yet, and are definitely worth visiting. Check out this great summer spot for chilling, swimming and dining!

The Ebbitt Room, fine dining!
