Buffalo Check And Chintz!

For a while check and chintz was thought of as too preppy and a bit pretentious. I personally always loved it and used it for many years here and there in design. I love the resurgence of this lovely fabric  and how the bold new colors and scale have made it user friendly and fun! I am toying with big red buffalo check bedding for a girl's room design with a little apple green and a complementary fabric thrown in, will share when done.  Are you happy to see check and chintz back in design? I don't really think they ever truly left.

Kitchen Conundrums!

The kitchen revamping is finally moving along. We have had a few glitches along the way! My kitchen is 15 years old, and it was done custom at the time so the cabinets are truly in good shape and classic so it makes no sense for me to rip them out. A few changes will be made such as the corbels that flank the stove and sink will be replace with stream lined ones that are much more simple in look. I still need to choose paint color but I think I have narrowed that down to a few choices. The floor at first gave me a heart attack as it appeared red before the finish was applied! Thank goodness the brown immediately surfaced upon application of amber toned finish.
It is hard to make choices when you know this may not be your  forever home, although I do not see us going anywhere in the near future one never knows.  Kitchens can be expensive and I am learning just now much cost has increased since it's been over a year since I did a kitchen project.  The price of marble has sky rocketed! I had my heart set on calcutta premium and received the quote last week for my side counters, not including island or butlers pantry and it was $17,000.00.  Since this is not new cabinetry and I am not building my dream home that cost doesn't make sense for us at this time. So, it was back to the drawing board this past week and I am seeking "White Carrara" or  Quartz. Stay tuned as it unfolds, we are hopeful to see it all together in about 6 weeks!

A Time For Renewal...

Whether you are religious or not , you must admit that it seems this world is in dire need of renewal.
Bare with me as I do a non-design rant today.
If you are Christian and celebrate Easter it  represents a second chance, a time to change since you believe Christ gave himself up so we may have peace in heaven.  For Passover one may celebrate the mass Exodus of Israelites from Egypt and once again a chance to start a new.  Even if you do not believe in a higher being you must crave a sense of peace and hope, right?  I think it's time to reflect and take note of the true beauty in this world. As parents I think we need to put our phones down and talk to our children and really get to know them and the pressure that today's society puts on them.  I think it's really time to stop and smell the roses, open the windows and let the air in, show gratitude and good manners. A simple thank you goes a long way. All of these little steps can bring a sense of renewal and a hope. It's Spring and life starts again let's really treasure it.
Have a wonderful weekend and whatever you choose to do please take a little time to look around and find peace and love.
Don't worry I will be back to the world of design come Monday!
