Moving on....

I will be neglecting my blog for a bit as a big change is happening in my life.  Although I relished my old roost for over 17 years, a new roost is calling our names.  I have shed a few tears this week as I began to ready my house for the market.  It was a great house to us, but with all my girls leaving the nest, a smaller newer home seemed like the right choice.  I think this farmhouse needs to have young children running through it, playing in the brook, swimming in the pool and I hope whomever is lucky enough to have our house will be  blessed with memories such as ours.

Now I have the task of cleaning up and editing. It was wonderful to receive a gift box of fragrant new candles and diffuser from Lafco . This will make my house even more inviting with wonderful scents for the Fall. These are from the new Holiday Collection 2016 for House and Home and they are delightful! I have the Saddle Leather Candle in my library, the Tree diffuser in my mudroom and the Gallery Royal Iris in my living room!
Scents truly do enhance a room, for more beautiful scents  go HERE1

Also please check out Furbish today as the wonderfully talented Jeanne Hartmann
Has her amazing watercolors available !

Onto the new Roost where we hope to create new memories yet never forget the ones we made at the old farmhouse
where the children grew up.

Fingers crossed for a smooth move and I will be posting off and on through this process.

  1. You are smart to downsize now while you're young and can establish new routines. It's very traumatic to do it late in life.

  4. Sink into the tears when they arrive. And they will. At confounding times. Feel every bit of the loss, because it has been all joy. You are taking that with you.

  7. Exciting times! I like your attitude very much! Now that the girls are off it is time to make new memories in a new home. I think those types of changes keep us young and a great way to break up time. I can't believe you have girls that are old enough to be out of the house.....you look very young! Whatever you are doing keep it up and please share your secrets! All the best to you and I look forward to hearing about the sale of your home and the selection of your new home. April xo

  8. A big congrats to you! This is a new chapter and I bet one that will open up all kinds of fun adventures. Sounds like the right decision but you are so right...it really is always bittersweet to leave a home where so many happy memories were made.
Hopefully another young family will come in and enjoy it with as much love and laughter and you will pass that tradition onto them.
Good luck with the search and starting a new chapter!! Keep us posted:)

  10. Packing and downsizing is never without emotions but you are right about your current home needing the energy of children. It will soon be exciting to build new memories in a new home and the beautiful candles will enhance your senses.

  12. We moved two years ago from our family home we'd raised our boys in. They were in college and we actually changed cities and even though i am hopelessly sentimental by nature, it was ok. Even exciting. You have to let yourself feel those pangs of loss as you go along though so you don't have it all hit you at once. You'll see. Change is good.

  13. This is big news, Karolyn!!! I know your new "roost" will be as lovely as the old one - you will add your beautiful touches and turn it into a lovely space for empty nesters! Sending you big hugs for a quick (but not TOO quick) sale and an easy transition. xoxoxo

  15. Dear Karolyn..... I understand what you are going through. It's been 2 years now and and I just want to say that this too will pass and it will all work out. I'm on to yet another stage as my daughter is getting married AND both and my son has moved to NY. It's been tough for me recently .. lots of tears. Down sizing can be fun and is a great opportunity to start fresh. xo
