Neutral But Not Boring!

Doesn't it seem like neutral decor has taken over?  I love that neutral palette is easy on the eye and allows one to decompress when entering a neutral space.  However, I sometimes get bored seeing the same theme over and over again.  Neutral need not be boring!  One can have  a neutral feel but add wonderful textured  fabrics, rugs and and objects to keep the room fresh. There are a few designers that do neutral so well and one is Mark D. Sikes.  He always manages to find balance in the space yet keeps your eye wandering in amazement such as below...

These next ones are wonderful as well!

I absolutely love the inter mix of neutrals by Highland Court for Duralee!
These can add style to any neutral space taking it from yawn to YES!

Perfect Play ON Pattern- Emilie Irving

I know we are all obsessed with 50 shades of gray... not the book, the decor!  It's easy to work with and calming to the eye but I still crave a bit of pattern these days.   I love a gray and white room but I really admire a room filled with a perfect play on pattern even more.  It really takes time and thought when grouping several patterns and colors together.  I found one woman who seems to do it effortlessly and that is Emilie Irving.  I thoroughly enjoyed the article about her home in the NYTimes- HERE.
The home is definitely filled with ethnic influence, antiques and plenty of gorgeous textiles.  Even if you are a minimalist at heart I am sure you could find at least one piece of pattern you would like in this article So check it out! All images from the NY TIMES.

Banking On A Banquette!

I am finally moving into my new house!  My old dear home has sold and I am getting on the moving van list for the next few weeks.  Meanwhile I have been trying to get  the new house move in ready.
There is one area of the house that is taking some getting used too and that is the kitchen family room.  I had a separate kitchen with dining in the old house but this is a kitchen family combo.  No table for eating area except in dining room.  What to do?.....

I definitely spy a spot for a banquette!
Now to figure out the best options, such as a custom narrow table and seating.
There are some great vignettes on Pinterest that I love,
even if they don't work for me, they are great just the same

I have ordered the following banquette...
Lee Industries
To be upholstered in a celadon gray green faux mohair, with brushed nickel detail.
I am working on the table which will be a 48 x 28 oval.
I am just stuck on which base I like best...
Either a  custom one like this beauty or..
This but is an oval top and wood stained both so nice its hard to choose.
Stay tuned!
