Marjorie Skouras you "light" up our lives!

Marjorie Skouras, a talented interior designer in her own rite, launched her line for Currey and Company in October of 2011.  Her fun, fresh yet traditional style lends itself to amazing products!  You can see the influence that 17 years in the film industry had with her dramatic flair evident in her design projects as well as her line of products! Marjorie has a BA in Art history and several years of training as  a fine arts photographer, along with her venture into film, but left to follow her passion of interior design.  Marjorie has had a thriving practice for over 11years, and has had numerous publications worldwide. In May of 2007 she had the cover of Metropolitan Home and was hailed as one of the most influential designers in America.  I find her to be such a colorful designer, with wonderful taste for mixing an eclectic room that is timeless and not trendy! Not to mention that I want every one of her products!!  My favorites are her chandeliers, agate sconces and beautiful tables. Marjorie also does custom tables for clients. The chinoiserie table is outrageous! Take a look at all she has to offer and you will be hooked too!

Design inspiration from the Beverly Hills Peninsula Hotel!

The Peninsula Hotel of Beverly Hills has just revealed its newly remodeled premises after a one year long renovation.  The renovation involved 193 rooms, including 36 suites and 16 villas, according to the Robb Report.
The 21 year old hotel has earned both triple A, Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star distinctions. Two very talented design teams designed the l4 largest suites. Three of the suites were designed by Forchielli Glynn LLC and the 4th grand deluxe suite was designed by Nancy Corzine. All of the designers gave each suite its own color and personality, but all have a traditionally elegant feel that is undeniably influenced by its environment "Beverly Hills"!
For the Forchielli Glynn suites they used lighting /crystal chandeliers by Paul Ferrante, tables by Mario Grimaldi, and hand painted chinoiserie panels by Hampton Hall! Nancy Corzine's suite has the quintessential pale blues and a glistening feel associated with her fabulous showroom! All furniture and fabrics were from the Corzine collection for her designed suite. The guest rooms and suites range from 625.00 to 8000.00 per night, so I am not sure when I will be staying there but one can dream!!

Demiurge New York

It was wonderful to see an article about Demiurge New York in the Wall Street Journal design section.  Atelier Demiurge was started by Rachel Shorr, the niece of the late Amy Perlin.  Amy Perlin was a very charismatic and talented antique dealer with impeccable taste. The design world suffered quite a loss at her untimely death in 2010.  Shorr opened Demiurge in her aunt’s old space on Manhattan’s East 61st Street. Here she is carrying on the legacy of furniture on quite an impressive scale with hints of patina that work well in any interior.  The line consists of reclaimed-wood tables that are sure to be tomorrow's sought after antiques.  There are 22 models in the collection, ranging from end tables to dining tables.  Shorr has combined contemporary and traditional, all orders are bespoke.
The top of an Atelier Demiurge table is constructed of antique wood, usually walnut, chestnut or oak,  hand picked from Europe. The matching and assembly of boards are done in a local workshop. Most of the tables have solid wood surfaces, but larger pieces may be antique veneered. Supports are newly constructed with wood for legs or trestles. All new supports blend with the vintage materials seamlessly, as to take nothing away from the designs.  A great piece is only as great as its finish, and Shorr has revealed that her finisher is “a great artist” from Belgium who travels here monthly to supervise the completion of each table.
Demiurge New York also carries antiques, and fine art.  A must see gallery when doing a shopping trip in NYC.
