Farm House Kitchen Update!

Thank goodness I can now get back to enjoying my kitchen! It was fine to begin with but was starting to look tired.  Mind you it was 15 years old and the glaze was wearing thin in many places, plus my four legged family members did a real number on the cypress 10 inch plank flooring!so after much thought, I kept the kitchen traditional but made it clean and neutral.

Next reveal will be the Butler's pantry when I can get a hold of a great camera  for tight shots! Remember we love doing E-Design as well, just incase you have Kitchen conundrums you need a bit of assistance with!

Remember the Before?

After

The cabinets received a fresh coat of paint , Edgecombgray for the surround and Kendall Charcoal for the island and mud room, both paints are Benjamin Moore Advance.  Jacob at the TileBar has such a great selection that it made choosing the 3 x 12 clean edge subway tiles an easy choice for the backsplash.  I have alot of counter space so to cut down on cost I did Carrara Marble for exterior countertops and kept my butcher block for island but added a varnish to it for easy clean up.

I always wanted Iron clad windows but since that wasn't happening I did the next best thing, painted them dark! The window trim received Kendall Charcoal as well as the island.
I loved the range hood but didn't like the chunky stucco so I sanded and skim coated it with white spackle  and sealed with a matte sealer to make it look  like smooth neutral plaster.

The lighting was from Visual Comfort, Darlana lanterns for island and Flemish Linear for table. I was so excited to finally have lanterns over my island. I knew no glass because I wanted something I could clean easily .

The window bench seat was upholstered in Pindler indoor /outdoor fabric and the pillows were from Etsy done in Princess Pyne's Schumacher fabric.

Hardware was Top Knobs German Bronze which has a dark burnished brass tone. The handles are 7 inch to give a more substantial feel. They are simple and clean.

See why I did indoor/outdoor fabric on bench!!

This old pot belly stove and vintage brick area I just couldn't demolish as it has been with the house for so many years

The floor was refinished in a mix of Provincial and Early American stain.

Take a Deep Breath It's November!

First, I cannot believe that I am writing my 777th post! I think it must be a lucky post with those numbers, right?
Did you know that November is Lung Cancer awareness month? Breathing is something we take for granted everyday.  I have had several losses due to lung cancer in my family from my Great Grandfather to my husband's Aunt. I also was recently made aware of a lung cancer survivor who's story is heart felt and full of loss and hope.  That someone is Heather Von St. James.
Heather as a little girl grew up in a house where her father worked hard doing drywall construction. Unbeknownst to Heather's father, he was bringing home asbestos and filling his then young daughter's lungs full of it.  Heather was diagnosed with Mesothelioma when her daughter was just 3 months old. She was told she only had 15 months to live but has surpassed that diagnosis by about 10 years.  She is currently trying to advocate for others stricken with the disease and lobbying Washington to ban asbestos in this country.  I truly think her story is worth reading and sharing so that we can help prevent lung cancer and put a stop to the use of asbestos. Please go HERE to read this amazing story.
In honor of Heather I have chosen to feature rooms that make one want to sit down and take a deep breath! Let's all be grateful for the breath we take.  For information about this disease go HERE.
I absolutely loved a statement by Heather, "Whatever doesn't kill me, had better start running!" Cheers to that! Good luck Heather on your quest to continued health and helping others like yourself.

Of course I had to start with Tina's fabulous space at The Enchanted Home!
