Missing The Mural!
If you follow this blog you know I got my start as a decorative painter and muralist. I had a blast in the 90's as murals and trompe loeil where all the rage. Then the clean and serene entered design as people wanted to decompress from their hectic lives. Needless to say the wall finish craze slowed down and I went onto design instead. I must say that I do miss a good mural! I love murals that depict age or mimic a fabulous wall covering such as Degournay, Zuber or Gracie. I love the use of layers that show an aging plaster affect as in the old homes of Europe. I took a poll a while back about whether I should do a wall covering in my powder room or a Grisaille inspired mural, and the readers won- It was mural! I will finally be starting a Mural with tones of beiges and browns including some fun Jaipur elephants! I am excited and a bit nervous because its been a few years since I have done a full mural. I hope to have it complete by December, wish me luck I think I will need it. For now enjoy some of my favorite rooms with murals.
Such beautiful images... I cannot wait to see your mural!! How exciting for you to get back into your painting!

I guess we are on the same wavelength! Do you show your mural work anywhere?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE wall murals. What a fabulous talent. Love the first pic of Audrey.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Grisaille - I'm kind of obsessed with it lately. I also adore any sort of chinoiserie mural (a la de Gournay or the one above with the pagoda). Can't wait to see yours - I know it will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, I officially just added you to my blog roll (finally)!
Thank you so much! I'm nervous but hope it will turn out well!

Karolyn,
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to seeing your mural - sounds like it will be beautiful and exotic! Just like the 18th and 19th century French Zubers and Dufours. I have purchased and sold a few wallpaper mural screens over the years. One had exotic animals from Asia, Africa and South America. All together!!! :)
Cheers,
Loi
