MAUREEN CHATFIELD

Rosenberg & Co. Opens its First Summer Exhibition

Maureen Chatfield
July 14 – September 9, 2015

Opening reception on Tuesday, July 14 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

“My paintings are not planned, they are discovered.” – Maureen Chatfield

June 12, 2015 – Rosenberg & Co. is pleased to present a summer exhibition dedicated to abstract paintings from Maureen Chatfield’s oeuvre spanning the last five years. This is the artist’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery and first solo show in New York.

Chatfield’s sensitive use of color is fundamental to establishing the mood and composition of her complex, diffuse abstractions. Whether working on an intimate or grand scale, she deftly applies layer upon layer of carefully selected pigments in an intensive process. The surface quality of Chatfield’s paintings is produced through this rigorous method and then complemented by stray paint drips and spontaneous impasto work.

The artist’s formal academic training, references to history and classical mythology, and influences of canonical painters like Richard Diebenkorn, Franz Kline, Edouard Manet, and Pablo Picasso can be recognized in the development of her artistic practice in paintings such as “Number Nine” and “Georgica Pond.” Just as crucially, the iconography and evocative titles of her paintings featured in the show, such as “Moontide” or “Weights and Measures,” are informed by her visceral responses to deeply personal joys, traumas, memories of form and spatial relationships, and even quotidian details of everyday life.

Maureen Chatfield studied at the Arts Students League, New York; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; Fashion Institute of Technology, New York; and Hunter College, New York. Her work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions at museums and galleries for over three decades, and is included alongside Modern and contemporary luminaries in numerous international private and corporate collections. Chatfield resides in Tewksbury, New Jersey.

Rosenberg & Co. renews a salon-style space with a focus on the highest standards of connoisseurship and expertise. With an emphasis on the secondary Modern art market, Rosenberg & Co. also continues the legacy of working with contemporary artists.

Designer CRUSH-Emma Jane Pilkington!

I have a serious design crush on Emma Jane Pilkington! I saw her "beyond fabulous" home in Elle Decor's June Issue and I was instantly smitten.  Emma is an Australian who transplanted to Greenwich CT. She originally went into Fashion design and worked for the fashion department of Esquire. Her true calling came after a friend asked the uber chic Emma to design her apartment, and well the rest was history. I truly love her use of European influence, it brings utter charm and elegance to each of her interiors. The blend of antiques and modern art work together effortlessly! If you haven't picked up the June issue check it out here!! Hello Emma? Is you ever need a design assistant...Hint Hint!

Emma has amazing personal style that comes out in all of her interiors!

Hello the leopard chair!

Where do I look? The outfit or chair, it's all fabulous.
