According to Departure Magazine, Phillipe Starck has brought the stunning Royal Monceau back with a twist!
Phillipe is famous for his hotels design worldwide. You may know his design
from the great New York hotels, the Hudson, and The Royalton. His innovative
design style is cool yet guest friendly much like the ghost chair he is famous
for. I love the chic spaces with modern lines yet large crystal chandeliers,
and use of quirky desk chairs with French writing on them. He has reinterpreted
the heritage of the Monceau by using the original chandeliers together above
the Monumental staircase creating a spectacular light sculpture that is
glittering yet not ostentatious. Phillipe has even designed a Suite based on
Ray Charles, which consists of 4 rooms that meander effortlessly and would make
Ray Charles proud with its vibrant, tactile objects. It even has a grand piano
and a guitar!
According
to Starck "Freedom is the only style. That is why I never speak about
beauty or beautiful products but "good products". Nowadays, we have
so many challenges; it is not really a priority to care for beauty. The only
way for us is to focus on an ethic and ecological behavior"
Well,
I know Phillipe does try to stay ecologically on the forefront in design, but
he does somehow managed to infuse it with beauty. Judge for yourself!
